Otto von Rantzau
Count Otto von Rantzau (born June 1, 1809 in Kiel ; † May 3, 1864 in Dresden ) was a German diplomat in the Danish and Prussian service.
family
Otto Rantzau came from the Rantzauschen house of Oppendorf. His grandfather was Count Christian Emil zu Rantzau († 1777) on Gut Rastorf . He had bought the old Rantzausche Gut Ascheberg three years before his death. The younger son inherited Rastorf. The eldest son Christian Detlev (1772–1812) took over the Oppendorf, Schönhorst and Ascheberg estates in 1797 , but sold Ascheberg as early as 1799 to buy a property near Copenhagen. He only kept that until 1801. When his career plans in Copenhagen did not materialize, he became a curator at Kiel University. His widow later lived in the Seeburg on the Kiel Fjord . The beautiful building, built by the master builder Johann Adam Richter , has belonged to the Rantzau family for a long time. It was only demolished in 1907 to make room for the later dormitory opposite the Kunsthalle Kiel .
