Ove Lind

Nils Ove Lind ( pronunciation : [ ˌuːvə lind ] * 29. June 1926 in Stockholm ; † 16th April 1991 in the municipality of Haninge , Stockholm County ) a was Swedish jazz - clarinetist , arranger, composer and bandleader of the Swing .

Lind began his career as a musician in 1946 and played in the orchestras of Simon Brehm , Charlie Norman and Thore Swanerud before founding an ensemble with bassist Gunnar Almstedt in 1954 , which also included the Norwegian Bjarne Nerem .

The style of the band was shaped by the music of swing, especially Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman . The band included u. a. Rune Öfwerman , Arnold Johanssson , Bjarne Nerem , Bengt Hallberg and Sture Kallin . They played exclusively in Sweden and made only a few recordings. This was released under the title Swingin 'the Blues on Dragon Records . In 1958 the quartet was expanded to a sextet, which also included trumpeter Jan Allan . The formation lasted until 1962.

In 1963 Lind founded a quartet with the vibraphonist Lars Erstrand , the pianists Ulf Johansson and Björn Sjödin , Rolf Larsson and Sven Sjöberg . Lind also played with the Swedish Swing Society with Antti Sarpila , with Bob Wilber and Egil Johansen and again in 1970 with Nerem. In 1970 he played with Teddy Wilson, who was in Sweden . By 1977 Lind had a quintet with Lars Erstrand that revived the style of the classic Benny Goodman quartet and accompanied Joe Newman on his album At the Atlantic . In 1978 he worked with Arne Domnérus . Around 1986 Lind played again with Erstrand ( Tribute to Benny Goodman Quartet ).

Ove Lind also worked as an arranger for the Metronome Orchestra and wrote the soundtrack for the film Nattens ljus (1957). In memory of Ove Lind, Lars Erstrand recorded the album Melodians - Swing In All Keys (Phontastic) in 2001 .
