Péter Tatai [ ˈpeːtɛr ˈtɒtɒ.i ] (born June 23, 1983 in Győr ) is a Hungarian handball player .

Tatai, who has played for the German club TuS N-Lübbecke since 2016 and plays for the Hungarian men's handball team (shirt number 16), is a handball goalkeeper .

Péter Tatai started playing handball in his hometown. He also made his debut in the Hungarian first division for Győri ETO KC . He quickly developed into a top performer and national player, but did not win a title with Győr, so that in 2005 he moved to the Hungarian series champion MKB Veszprém , where his former teammate Gergő Iváncsik was already playing. With the men from Lake Balaton , Tatai won the Hungarian championship in 2006 and the Hungarian Cup in 2007, but was mostly only second goalkeeper behind Dejan Perić . In 2008 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup and the Hungarian Championship with Veszprém . From 2008 he was in the gate of the French first division club US Dunkerque HB . Two years later Tatai returned to Hungary, where he signed a contract with Pick Szeged. In 2014 he won the EHF European Cup . For the 2014/15 season he moved to the Romanian club HC Minaur Baia Mare. With Baia Mare he won the championship in 2015. In January 2016 he joined the German Bundesliga club Frisch Auf Göppingen . In summer 2016 he switched to TuS N-Lübbecke . In summer 2020 he joins the Hungarian club Csurgói KK .

Péter Tatai has so far played 90 international matches for the Hungarian men's handball team , but was initially only second choice behind Nándor Fazekas and later Roland Mikler . With Hungary he also took part in the 2007 men's handball world championship in Germany, but only finished 9th with his team. He was in the squad for the 2014 European Championship .
