Church in Pítipo

The district of Pítipo is located in the Ferreñafe province in the Lambayeque region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on February 17, 1951. It has an area of ​​558.18 km². The 2017 census counted 19,651 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 14,221, in 2007 20,080. The district administration is located in the 80  m high village of Pítipo with 1188 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pítipo is located on the edge of the coastal plain of northwest Peru just under 8 km north of the provincial capital Ferreñafe . The Batán Grande (Sicán) archaeological site is located in the district. The rock formations of the Bosque de Pómac are also nearby.

The district of Pítipo is centrally located in the province of Ferreñafe. It extends along the course of the Río La Leche and includes the foothills of the Peruvian Western Cordillera to the south . The west and northwest of the district lie on the edge of the coastal plain.

The Pítipo district is bordered by the Jayanca district to the north, the Incahuasi district to the northeast , the Tocmoche district to the east, the Chongoyape district to the southeast, the Manuel Antonio Mesones Muro and Ferreñafe districts to the southwest and the Mochumí districts to the west , Túcume and Pacora .
