The district of Pólvora (alternative spelling: District Polvora ) is located in the province of Tocache in the region of San Martín in northern Peru . The district was established on December 6, 1984. It has an area of ​​2263 km². At the 2017 census, there were 10,994 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 6010, in 2007 it was 10,592. The district administration is located in the village of Pólvora at an altitude of 540  m with 802 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pólvora is located on the national road 5N just under 5 km east of the Río Huallaga and 35 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Tocache . In the south of the district, the Palmas del Espino SA company grows large oil palms .

Geographical location

The district of Pólvora extends over the north of the province of Tocache. The Río Huallaga crosses the eastern part of the district in a northerly direction. In the west of the district rise the mountains of the Peruvian Central Cordillera , in the east those of the Eastern Cordillera . The Río Matallo flows east along the northern district boundary. The west of the district is mainly drained by the Río Mishollo and Río Challhuayacu, both left tributaries of the Río Huallaga.

The Pólvora district borders in the west on the districts Ongón ( Pataz province ) and Huicungo ( Mariscal Cáceres province ), in the north on the Campanilla district (also in the Mariscal Cáceres province), in the east on the Alto Biavo district ( Bellavista province ), in the To the southeast to the Tocache district and to the southwest to the Shunte district .
