Pa Dembo Touray (born March 31, 1980 in Banjul ; also just Dembo Tourray ) is a Gambian football player . The goalkeeper has played most of his career so far in Sweden, where he was national champion and cup winner.

Career

Touray started his career at Real de Banjul . In 2000 he moved to the Swedish club Djurgårdens IF in the second-rate Superettan . As a substitute for Rami Shaaban , he came to a use in the league during the season and thus contributed to the return of the club to the Allsvenskan . After the Stockholm club signed a new goalkeeper, Andreas Isaksson, the following year , Touray was awarded to the second division club Assyriska Föreningen to collect match practice. In the second division season in 2002 he reached fifth place with the team.

After his return to Djurgårdens IF Touray remained second goalkeeper behind Isaksson, so that he contributed to winning the championship at best moral. However, he was in the goal of Stockholm in three cup games . In early 2004 he moved to the Norwegian club Vålerenga IF on loan . After Isaksson left the club in the summer for Stade Rennes , the club brought him back. As the new goalkeeper he played 17 games by the end of the season and missed defending his title as fourth in the table with the club. In the cup he moved with the club into the final of the national cup against IFK Göteborg , which was won 3-1 after goals from two-time goalscorer Daniel Sjölund and Andreas Johansson .

In the 2005 season Touray was under coach Kjell Jonevret in all 26 games of the season on the field and won the championship title in Sweden again alongside Markus Johannesson , Tobias Hysén and Toni Kuivasto . He also reached with the club again the cup final in which Kuivasto and Hysén through its doors to the club by a 2: 0 win against Åtvidabergs FF to double profit led. Furthermore, the club's regular goalkeeper achieved third place in the table in the 2007 season . After the season ended, he was nominated for Goalkeeper of the Year award. In January of the following year he extended his contract in Stockholm until the end of 2011. In the course of the 2009 season he was injured for a short time, but was able to help the club in the fight to stay relegated in 23 season games and the relegation games against his former club Assyriska Föreningen and the To manage relegation. Before the beginning of the following season he was named team captain, at the end of the season he was named Player of the Year at his Stockholm club.

Victims of racism

Touray was the victim of racist attacks in football stadiums. For example, he was thrown bananas at the Stockholm derby against Hammarby IF in July 2004. The BBC also reported on the incident outside of the country's borders .
