Paganino Gaudenzi
Paganino Gaudenzi (born June 3, 1595 in Poschiavo , † January 3, 1649 in Pisa ; also Paganino Gaudenzio ) was a Swiss Catholic theologian , priest and polymath .
Life
Paganino Gaudenzi was born in Poschiavo in Graubünden on June 3, 1595. He studied Protestant theology and law at the Universities of Basel , Regensburg and Tübingen and obtained his doctorate in both sciences in 1614 at the latter . In Chur he was accepted into the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod in 1614 and granted him the right to be pastor in Mese . For a short time he worked as a temporary worker in his home church and then as a preacher in Vicosoprano .
Gaudenzi belonged to the Reformed Church , but converted to the Catholic faith in 1616. As a Catholic he tried to convince the Reformed of his denomination. Then he moved to Lombardy and studied Catholic theology at the University of Rome . He received minor ordination and was appointed teacher and preacher, returned to the Three Leagues , and was ordained a priest . In 1623 he was also the administrator of the monastery in Churwalden and pastor in Tschiertschen for a few months .
From the end of 1623 / beginning of 1624 he held the post of professor of the Greek language at the University of Rome . From 1629 he worked at the Athenaeum in Pisa as a professor of Italian literature and feudal law. He held this office until his death on January 3, 1649. During this time he had also written several works; all of his writings were written in either Latin or Italian .
