Paxtakor Tashkent ( Uzbek-Cyrillic : ФК "Пахтакор" Тошкент; Russian ФК Пахтакор Ташкент / FK Pachtakor Tashkent ) is an Uzbek football club founded in Tashkent in 1956 .

Club history

The club was called Dinamo Tashkent until 1952 and Spartak Tashkent from 1953 to 1955 , then the current name, then in the spelling Pachatakor (Cyrillic Пахтакор), was adopted. During the time of the Soviet Union, Pachtakor was the only club from Uzbekistan that ever played in the highest Soviet league . Under coach Alexander Keller in 1960 he was promoted to the top division.

The club then spent a total of 22 seasons in the top league of the USSR, but never achieved a better ranking than sixth place and had to accept relegations again and again, but was usually able to return to the top division after a short break. 1968 Pachtakor reached the final of the Cup of the USSR, but lost 1-0 to Torpedo Moscow . Striker Gennadi Krasnizki played a major role in the successes of the 1960s .

In 1979, the entire Pachtakor squad died in a plane crash aboard a Tupolev Tu-134 . A new team was formed from volunteers. In the following three years, according to the decision of the Soviet Football Association, Pachtakor should be allowed to keep his place in the top division in any case, regardless of the sporting results. Shortly thereafter, Andrei Jakubik came to the club, who made a significant contribution to the fact that the club ended up in sixth place in the table in 1982 - the best position so far. In 1984 you had to relegate to the Pervaya League , where you stayed for six years. In the 1990 season, however, they were promoted again, so that in 1991 the last season of the Soviet Union was again spent in the top division.

Then you played in the newly founded Uzbek football league.

The club is also today's Uzbek record champion with eleven titles and record cup winners with eleven wins. Pachtakor took part as the respective champion in all events of the AFC Champions League and was able to advance to the semi-finals in 2003 and 2004 .
