Pamela Helen Stephenson Connolly (born December 4, 1949 in Takapuna , Auckland , New Zealand ) is an actress , psychologist , television presenter and author . She was best known as a cast member of the satirical television programs Not The Nine O'Clock News and Saturday Night Live , as well as through her book Billy , a biography of her husband Billy Connolly .

Education and career

After her family moved to Australia, she attended the University of New South Wales and then the National Institute of Dramatic Art , where she graduated in 1971. 1972 began her career as a television actress, so she played regularly with the television series Ryan . In 1976 she moved to London. After numerous film and television roles, she gained international fame through her participation in the news parody Not The Nine O'Clock News (1979-82). Rowan Atkinson , Mel Smith and Griff Rhys Jones played alongside Stephenson . She parodied Kate Bush and Olivia Newton-John , among others . She wrote How To Be A Complete Bitch with two writers on the show ; she also met her future husband Billy Connolly while filming .

From 1982 to 1983 she played a leading role in the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Pirates of Penzance in London's West End .

Stephenson's film roles in the 1980s include Mel Brooks - The Crazy Story of the World (1981), Superman III - The Steel Lightning (1983) and Rob Cohen's Scandalous (1984).

In 1984 she became the first female cast member on the American television sketch show Saturday Night Live . She parodied Madonna , Billy Idol , Joan Collins and Cyndi Lauper , among others .

psychologist

Dr. Dr. hc Pamela H. Connolly is a clinical psychologist and is licensed as a psychotherapist in the USA . Her scientific work focuses on human sexuality. She had a practice in Beverly Hills and was among other things the founder and president of the Los Angeles Sexuality Center and chair of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT). She hosted several television programs on psychology and sexuality . She obtained her doctorate in 1996 and received an honorary doctorate from Robert Gordon University on July 15, 2009 . She worked for six years as an honorary professor at the California Graduate Institute. She developed the Pre-Assessment for Trauma Plus (PAT +) psychological test , which assesses treatment needs in juvenile offenders and is used in some UK prisons.

Activist

Since the 1980s, Stephenson has been campaigning to limit colorings and other additives in food, especially in candy for children.

In the British General Election in 1987 , Stephenson ran for the Blancmange Throwers Party - she was sixth in her constituency with 328 votes.

to travel

In 2004 she sold her home in California and sailed the South Pacific for a year, following Robert Louis Stevenson's route. She describes her travels in her book Treasure Islands . A year later she went on another sailing trip to trace the fate of an ancestor who had disappeared in the South Seas. This journey was captured in the documentary and book Murder or Mutiny .

Strictly Come Dancing

In December 2010, Stephenson was a nominee on the BBC dance competition show Strictly Come Dancing . She made it to the final - her Viennese waltz received the highest possible number of points from all four jurors - and finally came third.

Pamela Connolly has published six books so far. The biography 'Billy' was an international bestseller. The book 'Head Case' explains self-help measures for mental health problems.
