Daniel Gabriel Pancu (born August 17, 1977 in Iași , Iași County ) is a Romanian football player . He played a total of 400 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Turkish Süper Lig , the Russian Premjer League and the Bulgarian A Grupa . In 1999 he won the Romanian championship with Rapid Bucharest and the Turkish championship in 2003 with Beşiktaş Istanbul .
Club career
Pancu started at the age of 11 in the youth of Politehnica Timișoara , his first position was goalkeeper, later he played as a striker and stayed with it. In 1995 he was in the first team of the second division brought and played an outstanding season that the rise in the Divizia A resulted. He stayed with Timisoara for three years. Rapid Bucharest became aware of Pancu and signed him. He was there top scorer and had a large share in winning the championship in 1999. In the following season he moved to Italy for the then first division club AC Cesena . He stayed there for a year, but was rarely used and in 2000 he moved back to Rapid Bucharest. At Rapid, he found his old form again and moved to Turkey to Beşiktaş Istanbul in 2002 . In 2003 he became a master there on the centenary of the club. In 2005 he played a mediocre season like the whole team and only reached fourth place with Beşiktaş.
After the first half of the 2005/06 season he was loaned to his home country Rapid Bucharest, where he came in the second half of the season to 13 games in which he scored two goals. He then returned to Turkey for a year and a half, this time to Bursaspor . For the second half of the 2007/08 season he returned to Rapid Bucharest . From summer 2008 to January 2010 Pancu played for the Russian first division club Terek Grozny . In January 2010, he and his teammate Florentin Petre moved to the Bulgarian first division club CSKA Sofia . In the summer of the same year he returned to Romania and joined FC Vaslui . After only six months and only five appearances in the first half of the 2010/11 season , he returned to Rapid Bucharest during the winter break. With Rapid he qualified for the Europa League . He was able to repeat this success a year later . At the same time he moved into the cup final in 2012 , but lost there 0-1 to Dinamo Bucharest .
In the summer of 2013, Pancu had to relegate to Liga II with Rapid. He remained loyal to the club in the House of Commons. At the end of the 2013/14 season , he managed to return to League 1. After relegated again in 2015 , he left Rapid for FC Voluntari and ended his career there in 2016.
Oddities
On the 28th matchday of the 2004/05 season, at the away game in the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium , even after the district of Istanbul Kadıköy Stadium against Fenerbahçe Istanbul , Pancu replaced Beşiktaş goalkeeper Óscar Córdoba in the 80th minute after he was sent off and Beşiktaş's exchange contingent was already exhausted. Pancu did a decent job and kept some shots on goal from the Fenerbahçe players. Beşiktaş player Koray Avcı then scored the winning goal for Beşiktaş in the fifth minute of stoppage time . Pancu was nicknamed "Kadıköy Panteri" (The Panther of Kadiköy) and wore the jersey with the number "1" on his back as a regular field player in the following season.
National team
Between October 6, 2001 and June 4, 2005 Pancu also played for the Romanian national soccer team (at times even as captain) and scored nine goals in 27 games.

Others
On December 22, 2008, Pancu was stopped by the police in Iași at 1.36 per mille at the wheel of his car and then had to surrender his driver's license.
