Florentin Petre (born January 15, 1976 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian football player and football coach .

Club career

Petre joined the capital city club Dinamo Bucharest in his youth and went through the local youth teams until he was used for the first time in the 1st team in Divizia A on October 15, 1994 as an 18-year-old and immediately after only three minutes of play with his first gate introduced. In the second half of the season, the relegation candidate UTA Arad borrowed the right winger, but despite his 3 goals they were knocked down at the end of the season and Petre returned to Dinamo.

In the following years he was a regular for the Bucharest and always played in the front half of the table. In 1999 the team was runner-up and in 2000 they won not only the 15th championship title in club history, but also the national cup. Still, the year was an extremely unpleasant one for Petre, as he contracted hepatitis C and was out of action for most of the following two seasons. He was able to celebrate his return in 2002 with a second championship.

In the years up to 2006 the club stayed on the road to success. From 2003 to 2005 Dinamo won the Cupa României (national cup) three times in a row . In 2004 it became Petres' second double with the national championship.

After playing in the highest Romanian class for 12 years, Petre decided to move abroad at the age of 31. In April 2006 he signed a three-year contract from July 1, 2006 with the Bulgarian top club and record champions CSKA Sofia . There he played a more offensive role than in Bucharest and was able to show double-digit goals for the first time in the following two seasons. After the runner-up in 2007 he was also national champion in Bulgaria with Sofia in 2008. In summer 2008 he moved to the Chechen capital to the Russian first division club Terek Grozny . In January 2010, Petre returned to CSKA Sofia and signed a contract until June 2011.

After six months he returned to his Romanian homeland and joined the newly promoted FC Victoria Brăneşti . At the end of the 2010/11 season he and his club had to go to League II . He only got ten missions. He then ended his active career.

National team

After establishing himself in Divizia A for over three years, Florentin Petre was also appointed to the Romanian national soccer team in 1998 at the age of 21 . On August 19, 1998 he had his first appearance in the away game against Norway . By 2000 he was used 21 times and took part with his country in the European Championship, where he was eliminated with the team in the quarter-finals.

After that, his illness threw him back and it was not until 2004 that he was able to slip into the national jersey again. Since then he has been in regular use. He played nine times in the World Cup qualification and Romania, third in his group, just missed out on the 2006 World Cup in Germany. In the following European Championship qualification, which was achieved as group winners before the Netherlands, he was again in action eight times and was included in Romania's EM squad for the European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland in 2008. In the last preparatory game before the start of the tournament, on May 31, 2008 against Montenegro, he celebrated his 50th international appearance. Overall, Petre brought it to 2009 to 53 international matches, in which he scored 6 goals.

Coaching career

After the end of his active career, Petre was initially assistant coach for the second team at Dinamo Bucharest in February 2012 . When Cornel Țălnar became head coach of Dinamo's first team in late December 2012, he chose him as his assistant. In May 2013, the duo were released together. In early 2014, Țălnar became the new head coach of FC Brașov and Petre was his assistant again. Both were released in August 2014. From February to June 2015 he worked under various bosses for Dinamo Bucharest before he again took over Dinamo's second team. In November 2015 he had to give up this office again.

In February 2017, Petre returned to FC Brașov as assistant to Țălnar, who now played in Liga II . The club broke up at the end of the season . The team switched to Luceafărul Oradea , but were released after four match days at the end of August 2017. In October 2017, he became the head coach of league rival Foresta Suceava . At the end of the 2017/18 season , he and his team had to be relegated.
