Paolo Rudelli (born July 16, 1970 in Gazzaniga ) is an Italian clergyman, diplomat of the Holy See and Roman Catholic Archbishop.

Life

Paolo Rudelli comes from the parish of Gandino in the province of Bergamo . He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Bergamo on June 10, 1995 . He completed his theological studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome , where he obtained a doctorate in moral theology and a licentiate in canon law . In 1998 he began his preparation for the diplomatic service of the Pontifical Diplomatic Academy . On July 1, 2001, he joined the diplomatic service of the Holy See and was secretary of the Nunciature in Ecuador (2001–2003) and Poland (2003–2006). Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Honorary Chaplain to His Holiness in 2005 .

Pope Francis appointed him permanent observer of the Holy See at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg on September 20, 2014, succeeding Archbishop Aldo Giordano .

On September 3, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Titular Archbishop of Mesembria and Apostolic Nuncio . The Pope personally donated his episcopal ordination on October 4th of the same year. Co-consecrators were Cardinal State Secretary Pietro Parolin and the Cardinal Prefect of the Dicastery for Integral Human Development , Peter Turkson .

On January 25, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Apostolic Nuncio in Zimbabwe .
