The parliamentary elections in Sierra Leone in 1924 took place in October 28, 1924 Sierra Leone instead. It was the first ever elections in the British Crown Colony .

The National Congress of British West Africa won all three seats.

Electoral system

According to the constitution of 1924, a parliament, the Legislative Council , with 22 members was introduced for the first time . 12 of them were government officials. The other members were two Europeans with economic interests, three elected locals from the colony, three appointed Paramount Chiefs from the colony (including two Mende and one Temne ), ie one per province and two appointed locals .

The three elected seats were determined in three constituencies , one rural and two urban ( Freetown ). Only literate local residents with assets of at least £ 10 in urban and £ 6 in rural areas and over 21 years of age were eligible to vote . This meant that out of about 25,000 inhabitants of the colony, only 1866 could vote (1016 in Freetown and 850 in rural areas).
