Parliamentary election in Sierra Leone 1986
The parliamentary elections in Sierra Leone in 1986 took place on May 29th and 30th, 1986 in Sierra Leone . Initially, the election date was set for May 15 and 16, 1986.
Electoral system
Since the country still had a one-party system based on the 1978 constitution at the time , all seats went to the All People's Congress . 334 candidates were nominated for the 105 members standing for election in the unicameral parliament . One person was elected with a simple majority in each of the 105 constituencies .
All Sierra Leoneans over the age of 21 who had registered as voters were eligible to vote . The mentally ill and imprisoned were excluded . About two million people were registered for the election.
