Referendum in Sierra Leone in 1991

In August 1991, a referendum on a new constitution was held in Sierra Leone, West Africa . The vote was held over four days, on August 23, 26, 28 and 30. The new constitution primarily provided for the introduction of a multi-party system after a one-party system had applied since independence .

Of the approximately 2.5 million eligible voters , 75 percent cast their votes. 80 percent of the votes voted for the new constitution, which was introduced on October 1, 1991.
