Referendum in Sierra Leone in 1978

The 1978 referendum in Sierra Leone took place in the West African state from June 5 to 12, 1978 and served to “confirm” a new constitution by the people. The aim of the new constitution was to introduce a presidential system based on a one-party system that allows the All People's Congress to be the only legitimate party.

Result

The election was described as "extremely rigged". There were 2,235,400 registered voters, of whom 2,215,146 cast their votes. The turnout was 99.11 percent.
