The 1996 parliamentary elections in Slovenia took place on November 10, 1996. In the election, the members of the State Assembly were redefined. 1.54 million eligible voters were able to decide on 88 of the 90 seats in parliament. Two seats were reserved for representatives of the Hungarian and Italian minorities.

Election result

The winner of the election was the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia (LDS). It remained the strongest party with 27.01% and was able to improve its good result from the previous election again. The second strongest force was the Slovenian People's Party (SLS) with 19.38%. The Slovenian National Party (SNS), on the other hand, recorded the worst of the fall, but was still represented as the smallest parliamentary group.
