The 2008 parliamentary elections in Slovenia took place on September 21, 2008. In the election, the members of the State Assembly were redefined. 1.69 million eligible voters were able to decide on 88 of the 90 seats in parliament. Two seats were reserved for representatives of the Hungarian and Italian minorities.
Electoral system
The State Assembly was elected using proportional representation. There was a 4% threshold. The legislative period was 4 years.
Election result
The winners of the election were the Social Democrats (SD) with 30.45% and thus received 29 out of 90 seats in parliament. The Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) came in second with 29.26%. The clear loser in the election with the biggest crash was the Liberal Democracy of Slovenia (LDS).
