Patrick Carroll

Patrick "Pat" Carroll (born August 17, 1961 ) is a former Australian long-distance runner who had his greatest successes in the marathon .

In 1984 and 1985 he won the Gold Coast Marathon . In 1987 he came in 45th place in the IAAF World Cup marathon and won the half marathon competition of the Gold Coast Marathon. In 1988 he was the overall winner of the Gold Coast Australian marathon champion. After a second place in Gold Coast in 1989 he was eighth over 5000 m at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland in 1990 .

In 1993 he finished third in Gold Coast. At the Half Marathon World Championships in Brussels , he finished 35th and won silver with the Australian team. The following year he finished fourth in the Beppu-Ōita Marathon , ran the Sydney Half Marathon with 1:01:11 h, the fastest time on Australian soil to date (as of 2013) and came fifth at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria .

With his victory in the 1995 Beppu-Ōita marathon in 2:09:39 h, he was the fourth Australian after Derek Clayton , Robert de Castella and Steve Moneghetti to stay below the 2:10 hour mark. In 1996 he finished fourth in the Lake Biwa Marathon . 1997 was followed by his fourth win in Gold Coast, where he was Australian marathon champion for the second time, a 63rd place at the World Half Marathon Championships in Košice , and in 1998 he was fourth at the Hong Kong Marathon and seventh at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur . With a seventh place in the 1999 Beppu-Ōita marathon in 2:11:39 h, he qualified for the World Athletics Championships in Seville , where he finished 48th. At the 2000 World Half Marathon Championships in Veracruz, he came in 66th place.

In 1991 he became Australian cross-country champion . He took part in the World Cross Country Championships four times with the following placements:
