Patrick Joseph Mullen (born May 6, 1986 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian ice hockey league .

Career

Patrick Mullen played in his youth with the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League before playing at the University of Denver for four years in 2005 .

For the 2009/10 season Mullen played his first professional year in the American Hockey League with the Manchester Monarchs . For one game he moved to the Ontario Reign in the ECHL . After going back to the Monarchs , he joined the Chicago Wolves in the summer of 2012 . However, the defender only played two games this season. After another move to the Utica Comets in 2013, he played from the finals of the 2013/14 season two seasons with the Binghamton Senators , where he was appointed assistant captain.

He completed the end of the 2015/16 season with the Milwaukee Admirals . In the summer of 2016, Mullen moved to Europe for Dinamo Riga in the Russian Continental Hockey League for the first time . In December 2016, Mullen was released from Dinamo Riga. Two months later, Mullen moved back to the AHL for the Rochester Americans .

In 2017 Mullen went back to Europe to Linköping HC in the Swedish SHL . For the final spurt of the 2017/18 season , the Adler Mannheim loaned the defender for the rest of the season. After the contract with his Swedish club was not extended, Mullen moved to the Vienna Capitals in the Austrian Erste Bank Ice Hockey League in November 2018 .

His father Joe Mullen played over 1,000 games in the National Hockey League , won the Stanley Cup three times and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame . His uncle Brian Mullen was also a longtime NHL player, while his brother Michael Mullen and uncle Tom Mullen also made the leap into the professional field.
