politics

Patrick de La Lanne was elected Lord Mayor of the City of Delmenhorst on September 29, 2006 with 72.3 percent of the votes cast for the SPD and began his eight-year term on November 1, 2006. He advocates a “moderate austerity policy” in budget consolidation and criticized the Growth Acceleration Act as it restricts the financial leeway of the municipalities and thus endangers the social infrastructure. He also rejected the privatization of city-owned facilities and businesses in 2010, arguing as follows: “Problems are not solved with privatization, but mostly created anew. Privatization also always means generating returns for the investor ”.

De La Lanne became known nationwide through the purchase of the hotel at Stadtpark, which the private owner wanted to sell to the lawyer of the neo-Nazi politician Jürgen Rieger in order to set up a training center for right-wing extremists . Citizens of Delmenhorst and other private individuals donated around one million euros, making the purchase possible for the city. “The city would have been paralyzed if the Nazis had settled here. We fought against a political enemy ", summed up de La Lanne and emphasized the civic engagement, which was unique in Germany" across all party lines ". The hotel was demolished in March 2009 and its prominently located building site, with the support of de La Lanne, was part of the planned "Graftbogen" area along the urban park "Graft", which also includes the largest North German pool project in recent years, the Grafttherme , which was completed in 2011 . Other projects during his tenure are the redesign of the market square and the renovation of the listed market hall by the architect Heinz Stoffregen as well as the construction of a shopping center on the city wall.

Patrick de La Lanne supports the “Delmenhorster Prevention Modules”, a concept for the early fight against child poverty and social grievances.
