Life
Bürde was the fifth child of the manor owner and Groß Strehlitzer district administrator Ernst Bürde (1794–1869) and his wife Pauline, b. Rambach (1798-1855). He grew up in Rosniontau ( Upper Silesia ). His uncle was the Berlin academy professor and animal painter Friedrich Leopold Bürde (1792–1849), husband of the singer and pianist Jeanette Milder-Bürde (* 1799). Another uncle was the building officer Georg Heinrich Bürde (1796–1865), who worked for Karl Friedrich Schinkel , whose daughter-in-law, the singer Jenny Bürde-Ney (1824–1886), portrayed Paul Bürde. Paul Bürde's grandfather was the poet and councilor Samuel Gottlieb Bürde (1753–1831). On November 28, 1856 he married his cousin Katarina (1837–1917), the daughter of his uncle Georg Heinrich, who gave him the children Alfred (* 1859), Anna (* 1860), Klara (* 1863) and Wanda (* 1865) gave birth.
In 1846 he portrayed his teacher Eduard Daege at the Prussian Academy of the Arts in Berlin . His picture Discussion in the Frankfurt Parliament is well known , in which Burde portrayed numerous important politicians from the time of the German Revolution in 1848/1849 as an eyewitness to the parliamentary sessions . A well-known picture is also The Homage to Kaiser Wilhelm I (1871), through which the Burden placed Wilhelm I in a row with Martin Luther , Frederick the Great and Field Marshal Blücher because of the founding of the empire and thus portrayed Heinrich von Treitschke's Borussian historiography . In Berlin, Bürde worked as a genre painter and portrait painter of Berlin personalities and as an illustrator for the magazine Die Gartenlaube until his death . The painter Ludwig Pietsch also highlighted Bürde as a “painter of watercolors of official events at the royal court and in the royal family”.
