Paul Jubb (born October 31, 1999 in York ) is a British tennis player from England .
Personal
Paul Jubb was born in York, the son of a Kenyan woman and an Englishman, and was orphaned at the age of four - his father, a soldier, committed suicide and his mother died a little later. He was raised by his grandmother Valerie. He also played tennis for the first time when he was four years old.
He was discovered as a child near Hull in Pelican Park by tennis coach Jonny Carmichael, who trained him at the Nuffield Health Tennis Academy in his teenage years .
Career
In 2015, Jubb won the under-16 singles title at the British Championships.
He has been studying at the University of South Carolina since 2016 and also played college tennis there . In his third season, he became the first Brit to win the 2019 NCAA Division I Tennis Championships . His studies will continue until mid-2020. Jubb won his first title on the ITF Future Tour in 2018 .
After his NCAA title, the Brit received several wild cards for Challenger events in his home country. After he could not win a match in Surbiton , he succeeded successively one more victory in Nottingham and Ilkley . In the qualification for his first ATP Tour event in Eastbourne he surprisingly defeated Denis Istomin and then the top 100 player Andrei Rublev , so that he was in his first ATP main draw. Here he was defeated by Taylor Fritz . Due to his success, he also got a wildcard for singles and doubles competition for the Wimbledon Grand Slam tournament . In singles he won a set against João Sousa , in doubles he had no chance against eventual winners Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah .
In the successful months, Paul Jubb was able to advance to 430th place in the singles.
