Paxton James Lynch  (* 12. February 1994 in San Antonio , Texas ) is an American American football player at the position of quarterback . He is under contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers  in the National Football League (NFL). He previously played college football at Memphis and was selected by the Denver Broncos in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft .

Early years

Lynch attended Trinity Christian Academy in Deltona , Florida, and played  football and basketball there . During his high school career, he fit for 2,099 yards. Lynch was rated a three star recruit by Rivals.com. After high school, he moved to the  University of Memphis to play college football.

College career

After suspending the first season (2012) in Memphis, Lynch was named starting quarterback before the 2013 season . He played all twelve games from the start, completed 203 of 349 pass attempts for 2,056 yards and threw nine touchdowns  and ten interceptions . In the second season in 2014, he started all 13 games. This season he completed 259 of 413 attempts to pass for 3,031 yards, threw 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. In addition, he ran for 321 yards and 13 touchdowns. Lynch was named the 2014 Miami Beach Bowl MVP after throwing for 306 yards with four touchdowns and three more touchdowns. In the 2015 season he started all 13 games again. He completed 296 of 443 attempts to pass (66.8%) for 3,778 yards, threw 28 touchdowns and four interceptions (all five values ​​a record for Memphis). In Memphis' 63-0 win over SMU  , Lynch set a Division 1 record with seven touchdown passes in one half . He made nine of 14 passes in the half and threw his touchdowns to seven different receivers . After the season, he decided to forego his senior year at university and participate in the 2016 NFL Draft. Lynch graduated from Memphis with a BA in Sports and Recreation Management in May 2016 .

Lynch's 35 touchdowns in the 2014 season and his 30 touchdowns in the 2015 season (pass and run combined) rank first and second most touchdowns per season in Memphis history, with his 76 career touchdowns second. He also ranks first and second for the most offensive yards in a season (4,015 yards in the 2015 season, 3,352 in the 2014 season). He was responsible for four of seven games with the most offensive yards of all time, including the school record of 447 yards on October 23, 2015 in Tulsa. It ranks second in Pass Attempts, Completions, Completion Percentage, Pass Yards, and Touchdowns.

NFL

Draft analysts predicted Lynch would be selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. NFLDraftScout.com ranked him the third best quarterback in the 2016 draft. He was selected behind Jared Goff and Carson Wentz , who were drafted in first and second place, as the third quarterback in the first round in 26th place.

2016

The Denver Broncos selected Lynch in the first round (26th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft with a draft pick from the Seattle Seahawks for their first and third round picks. On June 9, 2016, the Broncos and Lynch signed a four-year contract with a salary of $ 9,476,296 and a signing bonus of $ 5,091,852.

On October 2, 2016, Lynch played in his first NFL regular season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers , replacing the injured Trevor Siemian . He completed 14 of 24 pass attempts with 170 yards and threw his first career touchdown pass to wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders in a 27-7 win. In week 5, Lynch started his first NFL game, bringing 23 of 35 attempts to pass for 223 yards, throwing a touchdown and an interception. The game ended in a 23:16 loss to the Atlanta Falcons . He's been sacked six times , a negative record for a Broncos rookie . In week 13, Lynch again replaced the injured Siemian, this time against Jacksonville , throwing twelve passes for 104 yards in a 20:10 win in 24 attempts.

2017

During the third preseason game of the 2017 season, Lynch suffered a shoulder injury. In week 11 against the Cincinnati Bengals , the Broncos activated Lynch 2017 for the first time and he was the backup of Brock Osweiler . On November 21, Lynch was named a starter for the Week 12 game against the Oakland Raiders . Lynch completed 9 of 14 pass attempts for 41 pass yards, threw an interception in the end zone, although the Raiders had not yet recorded an interception in their first 11 weeks. Lynch left the game with an ankle injury in the third quarter and was replaced by Siemian for the remainder of the game, the Broncos losing 14:21. A day after the game, it was announced that Lynch would be out for two to four weeks due to his injury.

2018

At the end of the 2018 preseason , the Denver Broncos announced that Lynch had been placed on the waiver list.

2019

In January 2019, he signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks . There he competed with Geno Smith for the position as a backup behind Russell Wilson . Lynch could not prevail and was dismissed as part of the final squad reduction to 53 players. On September 17, 2019, the Pittsburgh Steelers enlisted Lynch for their Practice Squad .
