At the XV. 2015 Pacific Games, held in Papua New Guinea for the third time , two competitions were held in football. Eight teams took part in the men's tournament and seven teams in the women's tournament, which will be held for the fourth time since 2003. The games took place from July 3rd to 17th, 2015 in the Bisini Sport complex in Port Moresby . The tournaments also served as qualifications for the 2016 Olympic football tournament in Rio de Janeiro .
The game was played in two groups of four teams. The first and second placed in each group reached the semi-finals, with Micronesia , New Caledonia and Tahiti not being members of the IOC and thus not qualifying for the Olympics. New Zealand, on the other hand, is not a member of the Pacific Games Council and was therefore not eligible for the final round for the medals. Therefore, two separate final rounds were held for the Olympic qualification on the one hand and the award of medals at the Pacific Games on the other.
In the game Vanuatu against Micronesia, the 46-0 win was the historically highest win in international football. However, it is not a recognized world record because U23 teams play in the Olympic qualification. Jean Kaltack scored 16 goals alone .
The game was played in two groups of three or four teams. The first and second placed in each group reached the semi-finals, whereby New Caledonia is not a member of the IOC and thus could not qualify for the Olympics. The winner of the tournament qualified for the play-off games for the Olympic qualification against New Zealand in October 2015.
