Peña Amarilla is a town in the Beni department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Peña Amarilla is a village in the canton of Concepción in the municipality of Riberalta in the province of Vaca Díez . The place is located at an altitude of 155  m on the right, eastern bank of the Río Beni southwest of the city of Riberalta .

Peña Amarilla is located in the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin in the north of the country.

The mean average temperature of the region is 26 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 25 ° C in May and 27 to 28 ° C from December to February (see Riberalta climate diagram). The annual precipitation is about 1,300 mm, with a pronounced dry season from June to August with monthly precipitation below 20 mm, and a humidity period from December to January with monthly precipitation of more than 200 mm.

Peña Amarilla is 868 kilometers north of Trinidad , the capital of the department, and 324 kilometers southeast of Cobija , the capital of the Pando department .

From Trinidad, the 602 km long national road Ruta 3 leads west to Yucumo and on to the metropolis of La Paz . In Yucumo, Ruta 3 meets the end of 696 kilometers long Ruta 8 , which leads north via Rurrenabaque and Reyes , reaches El Triangulo after 541 kilometers and continues from there to Riberalta and Guayaramerín on the Brazilian border.

In El Triangulo, Route 13 branches off to the west from Route 8 and crosses the Río Beni at Peña Amarilla . In the medium term, the construction of the "Beni II" bridge over the river is planned. In the further course the road crosses the Río Madre de Dios and the Río Manuripi and after 370 kilometers reaches Cobija.
