Pekka Tuokkola (born October 22, 1983 in Alavus ) is a Finnish ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with Rauman Lukko since December 2018 .

Career

Pekka Tuokkola began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of Tappara Tampere , where he went through all ages from the U16. The goalkeeper made four appearances in the SM-liiga for the professional team of Tappara from 2004 to 2006 . In addition, he was active in his time at Tappara as a loan player for Ahmat Hyvinkää , Hokki Kajaani , Kiekko-Vantaa and Haukat in the second-rate Mestis .

For the 2006/07 season he signed a contract with JYP Jyväskylä . His greatest success with JYP Jyväskylä was the surprising win of the Finnish championship title in the 2008/09 season , which was the greatest success in the club's history for JYP. This season Tuokkola shared the JYP goal with fellow countryman Sinuhe Wallinheimo . In the main round he conceded an average of 1.96 per game in his 27 appearances and a catch rate of 92.6 percent. In the playoffs he was even able to increase his catch rate to 95.4 percent and reduce his goalscoring average to 1.19 goals per game. Because of these achievements, he and Wallinheimo then received the Jari Kurri Trophy as Most Valuable Player in the SM liiga playoffs. He was also able to convince in the following season and with 2.08 goals conceded per game had the lowest average of all goalkeepers in the SM-liiga in the main round. Even during his time at JYP he continued to play occasionally in the second division, where he played for SaPKo Savonlinna and the D Team - JYP's farm team.

In April 2011 he was signed by Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod from the Continental Hockey League and completed 21 KHL games for Torpedo in the following season before he returned to Finland in May 2012 and was signed by his hometown club Tappara. At Tappara he only received a few assignments as a back-up from Juha Metsola , so that he was loaned to LeKi in November 2012 and handed over to KalPa Kuopio in January 2013 .

In January 2014 Tuokkola moved to the Swedish club Färjestad BK in the Svenska Hockeyligan .

From May 2014 he was under contract in the EBEL at the EC KAC from Klagenfurt . In July 2016 his move back to JYP Jyväskylä became known.

On October 7, 2017, he signed a contract with Vienna Capitals because their regular goalie Jean-Philippe Lamoureux was injured.

International

For Finland Tuokkola has only stood between the posts in 2010 at a Euro Hockey Tour game .
