Peta Jane Buscombe, Baroness Buscombe (born O'Flynn , born March 12, 1954 ) is a British lawyer , politician ( Conservative Party ) and life peeress .

life and career

She attended Hinchley Wood School , and later Rosebery Grammar School in Epsom , Surrey . She trained as a lawyer at the Inns of Court School of Law and Columbia Law School in New York City . In 1977 she was admitted to the bar by the Inner Temple Bar Association in London . From 1979 to 1980 she worked as a legal advisor ( Legal Advisor ) for the Dairy Trade Federation . She then worked until 1984 as Legal Counsel for Barclays Bank International and Barclays Bank plc ; thereafter she worked until 1987 as "Assistant Secretary" at the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising .

From 1995 to 1999 she was Councilor at South Oxfordshire District Council . In the 1997 general election , she ran unsuccessfully for the constituency of Slough . From 1997 to 1999 she was Vice-Chair of the Conservative Party . From 1997 to 2001 she was president of the Slough Conservative Association .

She was Chief Executive of the Advertising Association from 2007 to 2009 . She initiated a restructuring of the Advertising Association with the aim of creating a high-level think tank that would act as the sole mouthpiece for the advertising industry, representing advertisers, agencies and media owners alike. She tried hard to influence governments and regulators at the highest level, both in Brussels and in the UK. She also worked to create a better public mood about the importance of the advertising industry.

Buscombe was Chairman ( Chairwoman ) of the Press Complaints Commission , in which she entered in April 2009 to 16 October 2011. Following criticism of the administration and in the PCC, particularly in dealing with the wiretapping scandal in the newspaper News of the World , she put down their office.

She is currently (as of June 2012) the director of Veolia Water Central Limited (formerly Three Valleys Water ), a private water company for Hertfordshire and Surrey.

Buscombe is a member of the Fundraising Committee of the Partnership for Active Leisure Scheme (PALS), a charity that helps physically challenged children. She is a member of the Foundation for International and Commercial Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

Buscombe is the patron ( saint ) of the Institute of Paralegals . In the Inns of Court School of Law Conservative Association is also patron ( saint ).

Membership in the House of Lords

Buscombe was raised to Life Peeress on July 23, 1998 as Baroness Buscombe , of Goring in the County of Oxfordshire . She was introduced to the House of Lords on July 28, 1998. She gave her inaugural address on November 30, 1998.

She lists trade and industry, law and order, and legal affairs as topics of political interest on the official website of the House of Lords.

She was opposition spokesperson ( Opposition Spokesperson ) in different areas: matters of the Law Officers and Lord Chancellor's Department from 1999 to 2005; Law and Legislation ( Legal Affairs ) from 1999 to 2005; Social Security ( Social Security ) Act 1999 by 2001; Trade and Industry ( Trade and Industry ) Act 1999 by 2001; Cabinet Office affairs from 2000 to 2001; Home Office affairs from 2001 to 2002; Culture, Media and Sport ( Culture, Media and Sport ) 2002-2005; Education and Skills ( Education and Skills ) 2005-2007.

Their voting behavior was recorded on the Public Whip website , a parliamentary information project that documents the voting behavior of parliamentarians. She voted moderately against the introduction of identity cards ( ID cards ), against stronger European integration , stricter asylum law and the hunting ban. She voted against equal rights for homosexuals . In the case of laws to stop climate change , she partly voted for and partly against.

Buscombe is regularly present on meeting days.

Family and private

She married Philip John Buscombe in 1980. The marriage resulted in three children, a daughter and two sons (twins). Buscombe supports several voluntary organizations and various charities. Her leisure activities included horse riding and sport shooting .
