Peter-Hugo Scholz

Peter-Hugo Scholz (born August 30, 1954 in Apollensdorf ; † September 23, 2019 in Leipzig ) was a German journalist , author and mountaineer . He worked mainly for the Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk as an author, filmmaker and researcher .

Life

Peter-Hugo Scholz grew up in the GDR . As a teenager he was removed from the Extended High School because of possession of a " Mao Bible " . He then worked temporarily at the VEB nitrogen plant in Piesteritz . This was followed by studies in journalism and African studies at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . 1985 Scholz was his doctoral thesis on mass media in Africa and Asia doctorate .

He has worked as a freelance writer for various magazines and newspapers. At the beginning of the 1990s he was press spokesman for various festivals - for example for the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film and the Tanz & FolkFest Rudolstadt . The topics of his television documentaries were climbing in Patagonia , the first Saxon expedition to Spitzbergen or a portrait of Luis Trenker . As the author of more than 100 television reports, Scholz appeared in broadcasts such as: Uphill - downhill , A case for Escher , Simply brilliant , LexiTV , artour , nah dran , ECHT! , nano , exact , cinema royal , thunder! , Outsider Front Runner , Today in the East , MDR Time Travel and Resumes .

His radio feature “The President's Tailor” (MDR 2018) was sent to Rome by a preliminary jury as an ARD contribution to the Prix ​​Italia 2019. In September 2019, his seven-part radio documentary "The secret depots of Buchenwald " was broadcast on MDR Kultur .

In the Gaudlitzberg quarry cinema near Wurzen , he organized the oldest open-air mountain film festival in Germany for 21 years.

Peter-Hugo Scholz died on September 23, 2019 in Leipzig. He left behind his life partner, a son and a daughter.
