From 1986 to 1999 he worked in the administration of his home town of Hohenthann . In addition, he trained to become an administrative specialist and business administrator. In 1999 he moved to the city administration of Rottenburg an der Laaber , where he worked in the financial administration and as chairman of the municipal company of the city of Rottenburg.

Public offices

In 2002 he was elected mayor of Hohenthann and confirmed in office in 2008. On March 16, 2014, the citizens of the Landshut district elected him with an absolute majority of 52.14 percent of the votes in the first ballot for district administrator . He has held this post as the successor to Josef Eppeneder since May 1, 2014. In the local elections on March 15, 2020, he again prevailed against six competitors in the first ballot with 73.0 percent of the vote.

Further commitment

Peter Dreier is a committee member of the Stille Hilfe e. V., which financially supports people in need in the vicinity through no fault of their own. He sits on the current supervisory board (2016) of “Bürgerenergie Isar e. G. ”, of which he is chairman. Together with Landshut's former mayor Hans Rampf , he is the district administrator and heads the “ East-South Landshut Bypass Dialogue Forum ”, which was set up on April 7, 2015 . Dreier is also chairman of the boards of directors of Sparkasse Landshut and Landshut's municipal company for medical care .

Political positions

refugee policy

During a telephone conversation with Chancellor Angela Merkel in October 2015, Dreier announced in the context of the 2015 refugee crisis that if a refugee quota of 1,800 people in his district was exceeded, the surplus asylum seekers would be sent to the Chancellery in buses because his district would then no longer be able to accept them.

On January 14, 2016, Dreier made his announcement true by transporting 31 recognized Syrian asylum seekers to Berlin who are allowed to look for their own apartment but can stay in their refugee accommodation due to the housing shortage. He wanted to point out the challenges that the districts and municipalities will face from recognized refugees. Due to the tight housing market in the Landshut district, there are hardly any alternative accommodation options for recognized refugees. As a result, they often stay in the state accommodation as so-called "false occupants", although they would have to move out there.

The bus trip to Berlin was seen by the regional media as a clear sign that the federal government's refugee policy cannot be continued.

The national media criticized the action as “irresponsible”, “unheard of” and “agreed game [...] on the backs of the refugees” and described it as symbolic politics and PR campaigns for his party. On the part of the Syrians transported, Dreier was accused of having made false promises. The next day, 29 of the 31 Syrians returned to Bavaria after being accommodated in Berlin for one night at the Senate's expense.

Infrastructure and traffic

In the past, Dreier has clearly spoken out in favor of continuing the construction of the motorway-like expressway B 15n beyond the federal motorway 92 and thus also for better transport connections to the southern district. At the same time, he advocates an east bypass close to the city in order to relieve the east of Landshut from the heavy through traffic and is of the opinion that this does not contradict the further construction of the B 15n, but rather that both projects complement each other.
