Peter Funk

Peter Funk (born March 22, 1953 in Kiel ) is a German major general a. D. the Bundeswehr . From 2009 to 2012 he was head of the Air Force Office .

Life

After completing school in Münster , he joined the Air Force in July 1971 , completed officer training and, in 1972, did an internship at Siemens AG in Cologne for a few months . Between October 1972 and September 1975 he completed a degree in business administration at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich , graduating with a degree in business administration ( FH ).

After completing his studies, he was initially employed as a replenishment officer in the air force supply group's replenishment unit in the Wahn air force barracks in Cologne and then, from April 1976, in the air supply and transport unit of the Federal Ministry of Defense (FlBschftBMVg). He then returned to the air force supply group in Cologne-Wahn, where in April 1978 he became head of the supply squadron .

In October 1982 he became adjutant to the commanding general of the Air Force Support Command , Claus Thierschmann . From October 1984 to September 1986 he then completed the 29th General Staff Course of the Air Force at the Command Academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg . There he was subsequently employed as a planning staff officer in the Air Force Command and Control Group and then from October 1988 to March 1991 as department head A 1 (personnel) at the Air Force Support Group South in Karlsruhe . In April 1991 he was appointed advisor for logistics at the Air Force Command Staff (Fü LV 2), before he was employed as General Staff Officer of the Chief of Staff in the Air Force Command Staff from July 1992 to March 1995 .

In April 1995, he was Military Assistant to the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), US - General George Joulwan and his successor, US General Wesley Clark, the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Mons ( Belgium ). After his return to Germany, he was the commander of the Air Force Supply Regiment 2 in Diepholz from October 1997 to March 1999 , before returning to the command academy of the German Armed Forces as head of the leadership and management department.

In February 2002 he took over the position of Head of Division for Principle / Cross Section Logistics and Use (Fü L II 1) in the Air Force Command and from September 2003 the post as Commander of the Air Force Material Command (LwMatKdo) in Cologne-Wahn. After finishing his activities there, in October 2005 he was appointed Head of Department Fü L II (Planning, Logistics, Armament) in the Air Force Command of the Federal Ministry of Defense . In this function he was also a member of the editorial board of the magazine "Wehrtechnik (wt)".

Since November 30, 2009, Peter Funk has succeeded Winfried Gräber as head of the Air Force Office. With effect from December 1, 2009, he was promoted to major general by the Federal Minister of Defense, Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg . As of December 31, 2012, Funk was retired.
