Ansgar Rieks

Ansgar Gerhard Rieks (born May 28, 1959 in Nieheim ) is a German lieutenant general in the air force of the Bundeswehr and deputy to the inspector of the air force .

Military career

Training and first uses

Rieks joined the Bundeswehr in 1978 as an officer candidate with the 5th Air Force Training Regiment in Roth . This was followed by officer training at the Air Force officers' school in Fürstenfeldbruck . From 1979 to 1982 he studied electrical engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . After graduating as a qualified engineer, he was employed as a technical officer in the electronics and weapons squadron of Jagdbombergeschwader 36 "Westfalen" in Rheine / Hopsten until 1986 . In 1986, Rieks returned to the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg, where he worked as a research assistant in the subject of "General Communications Technology" on March 12, 1990 as a Dr.-Ing. to do a PhD.

General staff training and service as a staff officer

After participating in the 35th general staff training course at the command academy of the German Armed Forces in Hamburg from 1990 to 1992, he was employed as a squadron chief of the electronics squadron at Jagdbombergeschwader 31 “Boelcke” in Kerpen / Nörvenich until 1993 , and then until 1995 the first ministerial appointment as a consultant in the command staff of the armed forces (Fü S III / military policy and leadership) in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg). From 1996 to 1998 he was employed as Head of the Basic Logistics Department of the Air Force in the Air Force Support Command (LwUKdo) in the Wahn Air Force Barracks in Cologne . This was followed by two assignments until 2002, first until 2000 for European security policy and operational missions in the planning staff of the Federal Ministry of Defense, then as personal advisor to Parliamentary State Secretary Walter Kolbow . From 2002 to 2004 there was again a service assignment as commander of the weapons system support center in Landsberg am Lech . From 2004 he was again deployed in two posts in the command staff of the armed forces, first until 2007 as head of department in the BMVg Fü S VI 6 (planning control, armaments), then until 2008 as head of department BMVg Fü S VI 1 (Bundeswehr planning principle; controlling; main process; BRH ).

General uses

In 2008, Rieks moved to the modernization department as group leader M I (modernization projects, operational tasks), and then in 2012, as part of the restructuring of the ministry, took on the position of sub-department head planning I - future development of the Bundeswehr in the newly established planning department. On December 18, 2012, Rieks followed Peter Funk as head of the Air Force Office (LwA) in Cologne-Wahn. He led this until its dissolution on June 30, 2013. From July 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014, he was commander of the newly established command of the support units of the Air Force . On April 1, 2014, he took on the task of building the Bundeswehr Aviation Office, which was put into service on January 7, 2015. On September 21, 2017, Rieks handed over command of the Aviation Office to Christian Badia . Since Dieter Naskrent's retirement , he has been the deputy inspector of the Air Force and has been appointed lieutenant general.

Further memberships

Rieks is a member of the Catholic Council of the Catholic Military Bishop for the German Federal Armed Forces and in this function was also elected to the General Assembly of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK). As well as a member of the Presidium of the German Defense Association (DWT).
