Peter Guggisberg (born January 20, 1985 in Zimmerwald ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who was last under contract with HC Ambrì-Piotta from the National League .

Career

Peter Guggisberg began his career in 2000 with the elite A-Juniors of the SCL Tigers . In the 2001/02 ice hockey season he made his debut in National League A (NLA) for the Tigers, who were able to avoid relegation to National League B against EHC Chur during play-outs . In the 2002/03 season he completed 15 games for the Langnauer junior team, but was in the NLA squad for most of the season. On October 11, 2002 Guggisberg scored his first NLA goal in the game against HC Friborg-Gottéron .

Before the 2003/04 season he moved within the NLA to HC Davos, although he still had an apprenticeship contract in Langnau. Therefore, the HCD had to transfer 300,000 Swiss francs to the SCL Tigers. In his first season at HCD, Guggisberg scored eleven goals and eight assists in 39 games. In the 2004 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected by the Washington Capitals in the sixth round as 166th. In the years that followed, Guggisberg developed into an offensively strong striker who is characterized above all by his speed and his urge to score. In April 2006, however, he was sentenced to five days in prison and a fine of 3,500 francs for violating the Narcotics Act. When he was arrested in December 2006 with 1.8 per mille blood alcohol, HC Davos suspended him until the end of 2006 so that he could not take part in the Spengler Cup . In May 2007, a court imposed a fine of 90 daily rates of CHF 340 (total CHF 30,600) on him, which he compared with charitable work at Davos Hospital. Despite these incidents, his contract with HCD was extended by two years.

With the HC Davos Guggisberg 2004 won the Spengler Cup and in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011, the Swiss championship . In January 2014 he decided to change clubs and signed a three-year contract with Kloten Flyers . He left Kloten in the summer of 2016 and went to HC Ambrì-Piotta . There he could not build on his previous achievements, had to undergo knee surgery in 2017 and was often redundant afterwards. His contract with HCAP expired in the summer of 2018.

International

His first game for Switzerland graduated Peter Guggisberg at the U18 World Championship 2003 . The following year was part of the Swiss U20 national team at the 2004 U20 World Cup . With the Swiss men's selection , he took part in the 2008 World Cup in the top division.
