The 2017/18 season was the first regular event after the renaming of the former Swiss National League A to the National League . The regular season consisted of 50 qualifying rounds and began on September 7, 2017 with the game Genève-Servette HC against Lausanne HC and ended on March 5, 2018. The playoffs and playouts began on March 10, 2018.

mode

The 12 teams played two double rounds of 22 games each. In addition, there were 6 additional encounters per team against 3 opponents, which were determined based on a regional division (east, central, west). In total, each team played 50 qualifying games. Then the top eight teams determined the Swiss champions in playoff style. The quarter-finals and semi-finals as well as the final were played according to the best-of-seven mode .

The other four teams determined in the playouts the team that had to play against the champions of the Swiss League to stay in the league.
