Kevin R. Klein (born December 13, 1984 in Kitchener , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with the ZSC Lions from the Swiss National League and played for them on the position of defender . Prior to that, Klein played a total of 700 games for the Nashville Predators and New York Rangers in the National Hockey League between 2007 and 2017 .
Career
Klein began his career in 2000 with the Toronto St. Michael's Majors in the Ontario Hockey League . After playing for that team for three years, Klein was drawn 37th in the second round in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft by the Nashville Predators . He then spent another season in the OHL, where he initially ran up for the Toronto St. Michael's Majors and after a transfer for the Guelph Storm . With the Storm he won the J. Ross Robertson Cup at the end of the season and found himself personally in the Third All-Star Team of the OHL.
After a total of four seasons in the OHL, the defender was briefly active for the Rockford IceHogs in the United Hockey League . Due to his good performance, the Predators brought him to the Milwaukee Admirals , their farm team in the American Hockey League . Klein was regularly employed there until 2007. During this time, the defender also completed five missions with the Predators in the National Hockey League . With the beginning of the 2008/09 season he was part of the main squad of the Nashville Predators before they gave him up to the New York Rangers in January 2014 . In return, defender Michael Del Zotto moved to Nashville.
Klein was in the service of the Rangers until the end of the 2016/17 season before he announced his retirement from active sport in July 2017 at the age of 32. In the course of his career he completed a total of 700 games in the NHL over a period of twelve seasons and collected 173 points scorer . However, only a few days after his resignation announcement, the Canadian signed a one-year contract with the ZSC Lions from the Swiss National League , with whom he became Swiss champions at the end of the season . After he himself was named the most valuable player in the playoffs, his expiring contract was extended for another year. He was subsequently appointed team captain.
He finally ended his career in April 2019.

Klein represented his home country at the U20 World Junior Championship in 2004 , where he and the team won the silver medal. In six tournaments he stayed without points. He also won the bronze medal with the Canada Ontario team at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2002 .
