Peter Klement

Peter Klaus Klement (* 1959 in Pegnitz ) is a Brigadier General of the Air Force of the Armed Forces . He is Assistant Chief of Staff J 9 at the Joint Force Command Naples of NATO in Naples ( Italy ).

Military background

He joined the German Armed Forces in 1979 and began his aviation career in the Air Force in 1983 as a lieutenant and fighter-bomber pilot in the 2nd "Edelweiss" squadron in Fighter Bomber Wing 34 in Memmingerberg . He became a flight instructor, operational staff officer and captain of the 1st squadron “Grünherz”.

On March 29, 2007 he became a colonel in command of the Air Force Aviation Training Center (FlgAusbZLw) at Holloman Air Force Base , where he remained until the end of 2009. From 2010 he worked in the Federal Ministry of Defense (BMVg) in the air force command staff in the field of general military and technical training (FÜ LI 3).

Service as a general

From February to August 2013 he was, while being promoted to Brigadier General, Base Commander Camp Marmal and, associated with this, also held the position of Senior Airfield Authority OAMS . From September 2013 to July 2020, Klement was General Aviation Safety in the German Armed Forces (GenFlSichhBw). After a Tiger helicopter belonging to the German Armed Forces crashed in Mali in July 2017 , his team of around 50 soldiers meticulously cleared up the crash. Klement handed over this post to Colonel Andreas Korb in July 2020 and became Assistant Chief of Staff J 9 at the Joint Force Command Naples in Naples (Italy).

Klement has completed more than 3,000 fighter jet flight hours on Starfighter and Tornado , and he also holds a Master of Aeronautical Science from the renowned Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach , Florida ( USA ).
