Hans-Dieter Poth

Hans-Dieter Poth is a Brigadier General a. D. of the German Air Force and was a defense attaché at the German Embassy in Paris from 2013 to September 1, 2017 . From September 2017 until his retirement on January 1, 2018, he was employed in the Armed Forces Office.

Military career

Training and first uses

Poth joined the Bundeswehr in 1974 as an officer candidate . After basic military training in the Air Force Training Regiment 3 in Roth and the subsequent training at the Air Force officers' school in Neubiberg , he began studying aerospace engineering at the University of the Federal Armed Forces from 1975 to 1978 , which he completed as a graduate engineer. Poth began his aviation training in 1979 in Fürstenfeldbruck with Fighter Bomber Wing 49 , which was followed by training as a weapons system officer on the F-4F Phantom weapon system in California . After successfully completing this training, he was employed from 1980 to 1983 as a WSO at Jagdgeschwader 71 Richthofen in Wittmund . In 1983, the Trinational Tornado Training Establishment (TTTE) in Cottesmore ( Great Britain ) retrained to the Tornado weapon system , which was then used by the Boelcke 31st Boelcke Fighter Bomber Wing until 1987 , including as an operational staff officer of the 2nd Squadron. In 1985 he was transferred to Jever to take over the 1st squadron of Fighter Bomber Wing 38 Friesland as squadron captain . He held this post until 1989. From 1989 to 1991 Poth completed the 34th general staff course at the command and control academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg .

Service as general staff officer

The first assignment as a staff officer followed from 1991 to 1993 as a department head A 2 b ( military  intelligence of  the air force, military security, technical management of the  field intelligence forces of  the air force ) at the air force command in Cologne-Wahn . In 1993, he was appointed to the Federal Ministry of Defense in Bonn , where he was employed as a consultant FüS II 3 ( national risk assessment; situation in other countries; commissioner of the army inspector for military intelligence ) at the command staff of the armed forces until 1995  . From 1995 to 1996 this was followed by a position as Head of Division A3 IV c (  direct operational preparation and accompaniment, operation of the Luftwaffe Command Center (FüZLw) as a joint situation center for  the Air Force Command , the Air Force Office and the Air Force Command Command ) at the Air Force Command in Cologne-Wahn . From 1996 to 1999, Poth was the Air Force spokesman in the BMVg's press and information staff. This was again followed by a deployment in a flying unit of the Air Force, he was from 1999 to 2000 S3 staff officer and deputy commodore of the reconnaissance wing 51 Immelmann stationed in Kropp , and then from 2000 to 2002 commodore of this squadron. He then completed language and attaché training at the Federal Language Office in Hürth and Bad Ems until 2004 , and then from 2004 to 2007 he was employed as an air force attaché at the German embassy in Paris . From 2007 to 2011, he was employed as Head of Division Fü L III 4 ( basic matters of deployment and operational management, operational command of the air force, operational principles, command support, exercises ) at the command staff of the Air Force in Bonn. In this function he was a representative of the BMVg on the supervisory board of German air traffic control .

Service as a general

In 2011, Poth held the position of Base Commander of Camp Marmal in Mazar-e-Sharif in Afghanistan under (temporary) appointment as Brigadier General , which he ended in February 2012. Subsequently, from December 22, 2011 to September 9, 2013, he was deployed as General Aviation Safety in the Air Force Office , investigating the causes of accidents in accidents involving military aircraft . At the end of September 2013, he took over from Brigadier General Werner Weisenburger as a defense attaché at the German Embassy in Paris.
