Peter Machajdík

Peter Machajdík (* 1961 in Bratislava ) is a composer . He comes from a German-speaking family and lives mostly in Berlin, where he moved in 1992 at the invitation of the DAAD's Berlin artist program.

Life

Peter Machajdik studied from 1980 to 1987 at the Business School in Bratislava and has been working as a freelance composer since 1992 (contemporary, predominantly tonal music, film and theater music). In 1989 he was a prizewinner of the international Luigi Russolo composition competition for electro-acoustic music in Varese, in 1992 he was a scholarship holder of the DAAD's Berlin artist program . In 2006 his composition "So Close to the Rainbow" was awarded the Slovak Jan Levoslav Bella Prize. He was a scholarship holder of the Kulturfonds Berlin in Schloss Wiepersdorf and the State of Lower Saxony in the artist houses Worpswede.

Machajdik has been visiting professor at the Faculty of Art at the Technical University in Košice since 2015. Machajdík's compositions have been shown at international music festivals a. a. performed in Rome, Vienna, Milan, Berlin, Calgary, Prague, Amsterdam, Lugano, Bratislava and Krakow. He released several CDs with his works.
