Peter Urban (born April 14, 1948 in Bramsche ) is a German journalist, musician, radio and television presenter. Since 1997 he has been known as a commentator on the Eurovision Song Contest on German television.

Life

Urban attended the Carolinum grammar school in Osnabrück and the Artland grammar school in Quakenbrück . He then studied English , sociology and history at the University of Hamburg . In 1977 he received his doctorate with the work Rolling Words - The Poetry of Rock on the texts of Anglo-American popular music .

Since 1974 he has been working for the North German Broadcasting Corporation (NDR). In addition, he realized various music projects as a rock musician and composer, including his band Bad News Reunion and the LP Götz George reads Charles Bukowski (1978). In 1988 he took a position as editor in the music department of the NDR.

In 2003 he became the editor responsible for the shows Nachtclub and Nightlounge at NDR Info . At NDR 2 he moderated the program NDR 2 Soundcheck Neue Musik , in which he put together the music program himself. The show was named after him in September 2016 and has been called NDR 2 Soundcheck - The Peter Urban Show since then .

Since 1997 he has been commenting on the Eurovision Song Contest on German television, only in 2009 he was unable to take on this task for health reasons. In 2007 he also commented on the Eurovision Dance Contest . In 2011 he was a member of the jury for the Live Entertainment Award , and in 2012 he was a juror at Jewrovision in Munich.

In 2013, Urban retired as an editor. As a freelancer, he continues to present NDR 2 Soundcheck - The Peter Urban Show and is part of the team of presenters for the nightclub show at NDR Info. 2015 he commented together with the German web video producer Max " HandOfBlood " boy to Webvideopreis 2015. Urban is married and has two children.
