Petersdorf is a district of the city of Nordhausen in the Nordhausen district in Thuringia .

Geographical location

Petersdorf is located about 4 km northeast of the city center of Nordhausen in Rüdigsdorf Switzerland , part of the gypsum karst landscape of the southern Harz . The northern neighboring village is Rüdigsdorf and Buchholz is in the northeast . The Roßmannsbach , a tributary of the Zorge, rises near the village .

history

The community was first mentioned in 1271 as Petirsdorf . The imperial village came as an imperial gift to the Nordhausen cathedral monastery . On the nearby Eichenberg was the Grafendorf Wachsbach , which was destroyed in 1294 by the troops of Emperor Adolf and whose inhabitants settled in Petersdorf.

After the Peasants' War in 1525, the village came into the possession of the Stolberg Counts ; the farmers were later liable to pay interest to the manor Crimderode . During the Thirty Years War , the residents fled to the city of Nordhausen when the enemy was approaching. In 1806, Petersdorf was sacked by French troops.

During the Second World War , women and men, mainly from Eastern Europe and Belgium (eight Belgians), had to do forced labor : in agriculture, in the Sächsisch-Thüringische Straßenbau GmbH , in the Obermühle gypsum works and at the Kaselitz company in Wiegersdorf . Accommodation was in the Kulbe inn in Petersdorf.

In the 1950s, the LPG "Kleiner Brocken" was founded in Petersdorf.

Petersdorf is the primary school location. On December 1, 2007, the place with the last 345 inhabitants was incorporated into Nordhausen.

Attractions

  • St. Johannis Church Petersdorf
  • In 1860, the Petersdorf innkeeper Wilhelm John built a summer bar on the 316 meter high Harz-Rigi . In December 1897 August Wille bought the restaurant, which was now called "Kleiner Brocken". From 1935, a son of the old innkeeper, Curth Wille, took over the popular excursion restaurant and ran it until 1971. The restaurant made Petersdorf known nationwide as it also served as a refuge for poets and free thinkers. Today there is a Chinese specialty restaurant on the Harz-Rigi . The name Harz-Rigi probably goes back to the statement of the Nordhausen high school teacher Ludwig Nitzsche. During a visit, he is said to have exclaimed that it was “up here like Switzerland”, just as if you were on a Rigi .
