Catholic parish church hl. Wolfgang in Wesenufer

The Roman Catholic parish church Wesenufer is in the village of Wesenufer in the municipality of Waldkirchen am Wesen in the Schärding district in Upper Austria . The church consecrated to St. Wolfgang belongs to the deanery Peuerbach in the diocese of Linz . The church and the cemetery are under monument protection .

history

In 1325 for the first time a dedicated to St. Wolfgang consecrated chapel in Wesenufer known as a branch church of the parish Waldkirchen am Wesen. There are no written documents about the time of its construction and consecration. In the centuries that followed, the church was generously sponsored by benefactors and foundations. This also enabled a chaplain to be employed.

Since the responsible parish church in Waldkirchen am Wesen was far away, people in Wesenufer strived for their own parish as early as the 18th century. This was not permitted by the episcopal ordinariate; from 1748, separate church registers were allowed to be kept. In 1853, Wesenufer became a parish exposition and received its own pastor. In 1891 Wesenufer was raised to an independent parish. In 1899 the rectory was completed and consecrated by Bishop Franz Maria Doppelbauer .

In 1997 the interior of the church was renovated, at that time the organ was restored and the Stations of the Cross restored. In 2002 the outside of the church was renovated and the epitaphs restored and attached to the church wall.

architecture

In 1721 a single-nave church, which was essentially Gothic, was extended to the east and received a baroque vaulted cap . The walls date from the Gothic period . The nave has four bays, the choir two bays and a semicircle. A roof turret with a baroque onion helmet sits above the west facade of the church.

On the outside of the church is a group of Mounts of Olives with a partially exposed Gothic portal.

Furnishing

On the dainty high altar from the second quarter of the 17th century there is a statue of the church saint Wolfgang, above it is a picture of Mariahilf ; next to it are two figures of saints ( St. Sebastian , St. Rochus ) from around 1700. The communion grille comes from the Biedermeier period . The side altars are of St. Consecrated to Mary and the Heart of Jesus . There is a baroque crucifix above the sacristy door . The choir stalls (1700–1725) with carved acanthus diamonds and painted wood grain (so-called pita painting ). The modern tabernacle (around 1900) has rococo chandeliers with angel heads (1750–1775).

The pulpit from the Baroque period shows the pictures of the four evangelists. The baptismal font is made up of granite stone elements, some of which date from the Romanesque period. The ceiling paintings show birth, baptism, temptation, crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus (donated in 1896). The organ was created in 1847 by Josef Breinbauer from Ottensheim and restored in 1998.
