Philipp Held (politician)

Philipp Held (born December 2, 1911 in Regensburg , † May 22, 1993 in Wolfersdorf ) was a German CSU politician . He was from 1945 to 1966 District Administrator of the district Freising and was from 1954 to 1974 the Bavarian Parliament on. He belonged to Alfons Goppel's cabinet from 1966 to 1974 as Bavarian Minister of Justice and from 1972 to 1974 also held the office of Deputy Prime Minister.

Life

Held first attended elementary school in his native Regensburg and then went to the humanistic high school in Metten . After graduating from high school, he studied law and political science at the universities in Munich , Erlangen and Berlin . He completed his studies in Munich with a state examination in law. In 1937 he obtained his doctorate at the University of Erlangen on problems in obtaining paid services by fraud . He accepted a position as a local judge at the local court in Lindau (Lake Constance) and later moved to the local court in Freising . In 1940 he was drafted into the army for military service.

After the war he returned to Freising and helped from June 1945 in the rank of Government Council in the reorganization of the district office. In the same year he was elected to the district administrator of the Freising district and remained in this office until his appointment to the cabinet in December 1966. During this time, he distinguished himself within the municipal umbrella organizations as a representative of the interests of the districts. From 1952 to 1966 he was chairman of the district association of Bavaria . From 1953 to 1960 he served as Vice President of the German District Assembly and from 1960 to 1966 as its President.

In the state elections in November 1954, Held was elected to the Bavarian state parliament for the first time, to which he ultimately belonged without interruption until the end of the 7th legislative period in October 1974. There he concentrated on legal and constitutional issues in the committees. From 1958 to 1966 he served as vice chairman of the Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs. As a non-professional judge, he was a member of the Bavarian Constitutional Court from 1958 to 1966 . After the state elections in November 1966, the Bavarian Prime Minister Alfons Goppel brought him into his cabinet as the successor to Hans Ehard, who had retired for reasons of age, as Bavarian Minister of Justice . At the end of the 7th legislative period in November 1974, Held retired from all political offices because of his age.

Philipp Held was the son of Heinrich Held , Bavarian Prime Minister 1924–1933. He was a member of the Catholic student associations K.St.V. Ottonia Munich and K.St.V. Isaria Freising in the KV .
