Philipp Schubert

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philipp Schubert (born November 16, 1897 in Weidenhausen , Biedenkopf district , † January 5, 1965 in Hermannstein ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

Philipp Schubert came to Hermannstein as a young man from Weidenhausen and worked as a former in the Wetzlar steel industry.

politics

Philipp Schubert had been a member of the union since 1919 and was a member of the SPD since 1922 .

In 1924 he was elected to the Hermannstein municipal parliament and in 1930 he was elected honorary mayor.

Because of his political convictions, Schubert was under special observation by the SA and NSDAP after the " seizure of power " . On March 17, 1933, Sturmführer Friedrich Gaul wrote to Reich Minister Göring from Asslar :

“The Hermannstein community is administered by a mayor who is a member of the SPD. During his tenure, he was always hostile to the NSDAP. In 1931, at a party meeting in Hermannstein, furniture and window panes of the premises in question were smashed as a sabotage of the meeting. Likewise, Mayor Schubert, as the local police, gave the order to the Reichsbanner to encircle the SA. A year later, during a march through Hermannstein by the SA des Sturme 2/88, Mayor Schubert behaved in such a provocative manner that there was a fight and shooting, with one SA man seriously injured. On the night of March 13-14, the swastika flag was torn down from the Hermannstein town hall and stolen. The SPD mayor Schubert is suspected of complicity. I ask the Minister to remove the SPD Mayor Schubert from office, because peace and order are at risk. It is not possible to wait until the new mayor is elected, because under these circumstances I cannot guarantee the maintenance of law and order. It is also not to be expected that in the new election of the mayor by the newly elected representation, a citizen will be elected as mayor, since in Hermannstein there were 5 citizens and 7 SPD councilors in the last municipal election. I ask the Minister, the party comrade farmer Theodor Christoph, to come as mayor. to want to use, because he has the suitability as mayor and enjoys reputation in the community. "

On April 4, 1933, due to a decree of the Reich Minister of the Interior, Wilhelm Frick , Schubert was suspended from his office as mayor with immediate effect. The official business was taken over by the tenant of the Hermannstein estate, Theodor Christoph. The district administrator of Wetzlar wrote to Schubert:

"Due to the decree of the Minister of the Interior dated March 28, 1933, I am hereby giving you leave of absence from your office as mayor with immediate effect and I request that the business be surrendered to the acting mayor, Mr. Christoph Gutspächter, who was appointed by me at the same time."

And to the district leadership of the NSDAP:

"I am proud to announce that Mayor Schubert in Hermannstein is on leave from me with immediate effect. I have appointed the landlord of the Hermannstein estate, Mr. Theodor Christoph, as commissioner. "

- The district administrator

In April 1945 Schubert was again honorary and from 1948 full-time mayor of Hermannstein.

In addition, Schubert came to the district council in 1946 and was chairman of the district council in 1952.

From April 9, 1960 until his death on January 5, 1965, he was District Administrator of the Wetzlar district .
