Ewald von Kleist (politician)

Ewald Friedrich August Conrad von Kleist (born August 3, 1825 in Olbernhau , † August 6, 1877 in Johannisbad ) was a landowner, district administrator and member of the Reichstag .

Life

Ewald was the son of Count Wilhelm Bogislav Kleist von Loß and Augusta Isidora, née Hereditary Countess von Loß. He grew up on his parents' estates in Olbernhau, Oberlößnitz and Tzschernowitz and attended school at Schulpforta . After studying law in Berlin , he went into the civil service, first into the judicial service, then into administration. He worked for the royal government in Koblenz for two years and temporarily administered the districts of Wetzlar and Altenkirchen . From 1860 to 1867 he was district administrator in Guben . He resigned from this office in 1867 in order to devote himself entirely to the administration of his property and his parliamentary tasks, since he had been a member of the Conservative Party in the Prussian state parliament since 1866 .

He also sat in the district council and represented the province of Niederlausitz in the municipal parliament in Lübben , was a member of the provincial council and chairman of the provincial committee for the province of Brandenburg .

From 1866 to 1867 he was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives , from 1867 to 1871 a member of the North German Reichstag and from 1871 to 1874 and 1877/78 a member of the German Reichstag for the Conservative parliamentary group for the constituency of Frankfurt 7 (Guben-Lübben).

Ewald was the heir to the Tzschernowitz, Beesgen and Döbern estates in the Guben district , also owned the Olbernhauer estates in the Ore Mountains and was a co-owner of Raddatz.

In 1861 he married Countess Luise von Reventlow , with whom he had three daughters.

Awards

Kleist took part in the war against France in 1870/71 and was decorated with the Iron Cross, 2nd class. He was also the holder of the Saxon Albrecht Order , the Red Eagle Order IV class and the Crown Order III. Class.
