Philippe Rousselot

Philippe Rousselot (born September 4, 1945 in Briey ) is a French cameraman .

Career

Rousselot made his debut as camera assistant to Néstor Almendros in the films Meine Nacht bei Maud (1969) and Claire's Knie (1970) by Éric Rohmer . After some work as co-cameraman of Guy Gilles , he photographed Guy Gilles' film Absences répétées on his own in 1972 . In the same year another collaboration with Nestor Almendros followed in the Rohmer film Love in the Afternoon .

Other well-known films in the 1970s were The Little Parisian Women (1977) by Diane Kurys and A Little Slut (1979) by Jacques Doillon . In 1981 he photographed the film Diva for Jean-Jacques Brilleix , for which he received his first César .

From 1985 he also achieved success in international film productions when he took over the camera work for John Boorman's film The Emerald Forest and was awarded the British Academy Film Award in 1986 . In 1987 he received a César for Thérèse from Alain Cavalier . In 1988 he got his first Oscar nomination for John Booman's Hope And Glory . In 1989 he contributed his recordings for the film The Bear by Jean-Jacques Annaud significantly to the success of this film at. In 1991 he received his second Oscar nomination for Henry & June (directed by Philip Kaufman ). In 1992 he received the coveted trophy for Robert Redford's literary film adaptation A river springs from the middle .

After working for Neil Jordan ( We Are Not Angels , Miracle - A Mysterious Summer , Interview with a Vampire ), Jon Amiel ( Sommersby ), Miloš Forman ( Larry Flynt - The Naked Truth ) and Stephen Frears ( Dangerous Liaisons , Mary Reilly ) worked he has been working with Tim Burton ( Planet of the Apes , Big Fish , Charlie and the Chocolate Factory ) in recent years . He began filming Brett Ratner's film X-Men: The Last Stand in 2005 , but was later replaced by Dante Spinotti .

In 1997 he presented his first and so far only directorial work with the film Der Schlangenkuss .

In March 2020 he received the Marburg Camera Prize for outstanding image design in film as part of the 22nd Marburg Camera Talks .
