Piera Hudson (born February 7, 1996 in Hastings ) is a New Zealand ski racer . The multiple New Zealand champion and World Cup participant mainly starts in the technical disciplines of giant slalom and slalom .
biography
Piera Hudson comes from Hastings on the North Island of New Zealand and starts for the Wanaka Ski Club. She competed in her first FIS races in Cardrona at the age of 15 and made her debut in the Australian New Zealand Cup on August 27, 2011 . In the following northern winter, she took part in the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck . In slalom, super-combined and super-G , she was ranked 15, 16 and 17, in giant slalom she was eliminated. Towards the end of the same season, she played her first of five Junior World Championships in Roccaraso . In a total of 15 races, she achieved her best result in 2016 with rank 16 in the giant slalom in Sochi . In the coming seasons she established herself with good performances in the Australian New Zealand Cup, which she won for the first time in 2015.
In February 2013, around her 17th birthday, she took part in a world championship for the first time in Schladming , but could not achieve a countable result. Two years later, she made her World Cup debut in the giant slalom in Maribor . At the 2015 World Championships in Vail , she finished 39th, more than 11 seconds behind slalom winner Mikaela Shiffrin . In St. Moritz , she failed to reach the finish line in both giant slalom and slalom in 2017. She had to forego participation in the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang in favor of her teammate Alice Robinson .
On November 25, 2018, she won her first World Cup points by finishing 26th in the Killington slalom . This made her the first athlete since Claudia Riegler, who was born in Salzburg , to score for New Zealand in January 2003.
