Police (Czech Republic)

In the Czech Republic exist as police organizations, the Police of the Czech Republic ( Policie České republiky ), the municipal police forces ( obecní policie or městská policie ) and the Military Police ( Vojenská policie ).

The Police of the Czech Republic ( Policie České republiky , PČR ) is the state police force in the Czech Republic. The current police chief is Jan Švejdar. The police motto is “Pomáhat a chránit” (Help and protect). The police can be reached on their own emergency number 158 or the European emergency number 112. The activity of the police is regulated by Act 361/2003 Coll.

history

The Police of the Czech Republic was created on July 15, 1991 by the new Act No. 283/1991 Coll. On the Police of the Czech Republic from the former Veřejná bezpečnost ( Public Security ), a part of the Sbor národní bezpečnosti (Corps of National Security) . Veřejná bezpečnost officials were transferred to the new police force. The other part of the Sbor národní bezpečnosti - the communist secret police Státní bezpečnost ( State Security ), was dissolved shortly after the Velvet Revolution by order of the Interior Minister on February 1, 1990. The police work in the public sector.

On January 1, 2009, a police reform was implemented through the new Police Act No. 273/2008 Sb. This created, among other things, another six regional police departments.

Police tasks include ensuring public order, combating terrorism, uncovering criminal offenses, securing the perpetrators, police protection of state borders, protection of the constitutional organs of the Czech Republic, protection of diplomatic missions in the Czech Republic, protection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior and other particularly important ones Objects, supervision of the safety and continuity of road traffic with detection of violations, announcement of investigations throughout the territory of the Czech Republic and performance of state administration tasks.

Policie ČR is subordinate to the Czech Ministry of the Interior and consists of departments ( útvar ). The police departments are:

  • 14 regional police departments ( krajské ředitelství policie ) in the 14 regions
  • departments established within the framework of the regional police headquarters

  • Organized Crime Detection Department ( Útvar pro odhalování organizovaného zločinu SKPV )
  • Department for the Protection of the President of the Czech Republic ( Útvar pro ochranu prezidenta ČR )
  • Department for the Protection of Constitutional Officials ( Útvar pro ochranu ústavních činitelů )
  • Rapid deployment department ( Útvar rychlého nasazení )
  • Department for special activities ( Útvar speciálních činností SKPV ) ( e.g. personal protection or witness protection)

The President of the Czech Republic may, at the proposal of the government, raise a director of the Security Corps, his deputy or a head of part of the Security Corps to the rank of Brigadier General (brigádní generál) , Lieutenant General (generálporučík) or Major General (generálmajor) .

Today vehicles from the manufacturer Škoda Auto are mainly used: Škoda Felicia Combi, Škoda Fabia Combi and Škoda Octavia . Older vehicles of the type Felicia and Fabia will be replaced by vehicles of the type Škoda Octavia 1.6 (75 kW) and 1.8 (118 kW) in the new silver-blue design, previously white-green.

The traffic police use the Škoda Octavia RS 2.0 (147 kW), Ford Mondeo ST220 3.0 (166 kW), civilian VW Passat VR6 3.6 (221 kW) to track speed offenders, Yamaha motorcycles (600 and 1300 cm³) and VW Transporter 3.2 (173 kW).

The flight service is equipped with helicopters of the type EC 135 T2 , Bell 412 HP and Bell 412 EP. It also ensures that one of the ten air rescue stations in the Czech Republic operates continuously at the Prague location .

The municipal police ( obecní policie , in cities městská policie - municipal police) is a municipality body and is established by the municipal council , which also bears the costs of running the unit; the employees are employees of the municipality. She is responsible for the public order in the municipality. The municipal police are headed by the mayor or another member of the municipal council.

The municipal police are uniformed and armed. The emergency number is 156.
