The Popp Feinkost GmbH is an established in 1920 food manufacturers for salads and sandwich spreads and is now part of Wernsing Food Family , based in Essen / Oldenburg - Addrup .

Company history

The company was founded in 1920 by Walter Popp as Feinkosthaus Popp in Dresden . Later, the first delicatessen and mayonnaise factory was set up in Wroclaw and a special factory for mayonnaise and salads in Katowice . In the course of the Second World War , the three companies and the branches in Gleiwitz and Erfurt were lost. After the war there was a new beginning. In 1951 the first participation in the Hamburg food fair took place. In 1960 the main company moved to Kaltenkirchen and plants were built in Schulenburg , Kempen and Frankfurt am Main .

In 1985 the merger with Feinkost Dr. Schrödter in Kiel . On January 1, 1988, Popp Feinkost GmbH & Co. KG was taken over by the Wernsing Group from Addrup. In 1989 a new company building followed on Carl-Benz-Strasse in Kaltenkirchen. 1999 Takeover of the delicatessen specialist Bruckmann Feinkost from Cologne . 2000 Establishment of the ZMK Delikates Spólka z oo production facility in Ostrów Wielkopolski in Poland. 2001 takeover of the salad manufacturer Grossmann Feinkost from Reinbek , 2010 from Füngers Feinkost from Oranienbaum-Wörlitz , 2012 from Mayo Feinkost from Lübeck and 2016 from KapPa Antipasti from Butzbach and Casa Westfalia based in Vulpellac (Girona).

In August 2012 there is a change in the company's management. Philipp Harland succeeds Dietrich Tetz, who took over the management for around 40 years. With Harland and the co-managing director Jens Kremer, the company changed its strategy with the aim of making the brand better known throughout Germany. From 2014 onwards, the company achieved increased awareness through an advertising campaign through television advertising.

On August 26, 2015, the company set a world record with a 155.9-meter-long picnic table on the beach in Sankt Peter-Ording , which has been entered in the Guinness Book of Records and has since been surpassed again.

The company has been a sleeve sponsor of the Bundesliga soccer club Hamburger SV since the 2017/18 season . The agreement is initially valid until 2019.

As of August 2019, Popp is the strongest brand in the field of delicatessen salads and also has the strongest branded delicatessen salad in Germany with the egg salad spread.

The Federal Cartel Office has approved the majority stake of the Popp Food Group in Edmund Merl GmbH in Brühl on September 1, 2019.

Products

The range includes salads, spreads, smoked fish, fish marinades, potato specialties and fruit groats. The company's main brand is Popp . Side and party salads as well as tzatziki are also sold under the names Salatkönig and Bruckmann .
