Poppendorf is a district of Dothen , a district of Schkölen in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia .

Geography and geology

The street village with several farmsteads west of Schkölen in the arable farming area is flanked by a grove to the southwest . The erosion channels and those with small streams are partly greened with wood and trees. Otherwise the demarcation around the place is like a table top. The soils are also similar to black earth . Schkölen can be reached via the local connecting road with a connection to state road 1071. In a westerly direction, state road 1070 is reached near Wetzdorf with a connection to federal highway 9 near Eisenberg . Direct neighbors are Dothen , Schkölen , Grabsdorf and Mertendorf (Thuringia) .

history

On December 4, 1435, Poppendorf was first mentioned in a document. Since then, the Tautenburg taverns have been masters of the place. After this noble family died out, Poppendorf belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office of Tautenburg from 1640/52 . With the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the place became part of the Grand Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach and in 1822 it was incorporated into the Bürgel and Tautenburg office. In 1850 the place came to the administrative district Weimar II (from 1868: administrative district Apolda ) of the Grand Duchy. Poppendorf has belonged to the state of Thuringia since 1920.

Bell house

The neo-Romanesque church from 1873/74 has a bell house in the village a little away from the location of the church, as in Wetzdorf. With the church, the citizens of the place showed their economic strength during this time.

In 2013 remains of Schellendorf (desert) were found in the corridor between Poppendorf and Wetzdorf .
