Presidential election in Iran in 1980
The Iranian presidential election in 1980 took place on January 25, 1980 .
The elections were Iran's first presidential election after the constitutional amendment and the Islamic revolution . After the overthrow of the Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi , the elections did not mean a choice of direction. Regardless of whether the candidates from the bourgeois parties (Independent / National Front ) won the election, the constitution mandated the religious leader, Ruhollah Khomeini , to be the Supreme Legal Scholar of the Islamic Republic of Iran. 96 candidates stood for election, the turnout of the 20,993,643 eligible voters was 67.4%.
